i4Light is an independent lighting design studio for architectural, decorative, indoor and outdoor projects. I'm not tied up to a particular lighting brand or manufacturer, which means every specification is based on what the project genuinely needs.
About Christine
I'm Christine Kuhne, founder and designer behind i4Light.
Since 2007, I've been working in the professional lighting industry, developing a deep understanding of both technical and creative sides of light.
In 2017, I founded i4Light, independent lighting design studio based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I have a clear ambition which is to create lighting solutions that do more than illuminate a space.
I believe that light has the power to transform architecture.
It can emphasise proportions, create depths, guide movements, enhance materials and behave within a space. That is what lighting design is so fascinating to me.
Over the years I've build a strong international network of manufacturers, suppliers, designers and lighting professionals. This network gives me acces to a broad range of expertise, products and possibilities, while allowing me to remain personally involved in projects.
For me quality comes before quantity. I prefer meaningful collaborations, direct communication and longterm relationships with clients and partners.
My approach
Every project request is different. That is why I do not start with a product or a predefined lighting solution. I start by listening and ask questions like;
- What is the purpose of the space?
- Who will use it?
- What should people experience?
- What is the architectural vision?
- How can light strengthen the identity of the environment?
From there I develop a lighting concept that combines creativity, technical knowledge and practical feasibility.
